GLOSSARY OF TERMS
PROOF QUALITY - This is our standard quality print. A good choice for family photo albums or sharing with friends. Printed with ChromaLife100 dye-based ink on high quality Ilford Galerie Smooth Pearl Paper (a hybrid between a glossy and matte finish), this proof quality print will be vibrant and long-lasting (resists fading for: 30-year light-fastness & 10-year gas-fastness).
FINAL QUALITY - This is the flagship product from our lab. This level of print not only undergoes extra quality control processes but also opens up various finishing possibilities which simply are not offered on proof quality prints. Printed on Kodak Professional Endura Papers, your final quality print utilizes cutting-edge photographic technology to maximize color and tonal accuracy. Prints feature state-of-the-art image stability and performance (e.g., resists fading for over 100-years in typical home conditions). Additionally, all final-quality prints utilize printers which expose the Endura paper with laser light and undergo traditional chemical processing (proof quality prints utilize only inkjet printing technology). If you're for the highest quality image, this is it.
LUSTRE COATING = Acrylate Polymer coating designed to both protect the print as well as enhance the visible quality/look of the print. Similar appearance to lacquer with a rich glossy sheen (applied carefully with rollers for a even clean surface). Protects prints against fingerprints, ultraviolet light, and dust.
TEXTURES = As pictured below, the fine linen and palette surface textures are machine applied through an extremely high-pressure embossing process to enhance the visual appeal of your images.
- FINELINEN TEXTURE = Roller applied and embossed into the print. Provides a noticeable but somewhat subtle and distinct surface alteration to set your image apart. Works well on both large and small enlargements.
- PALETTE TEXTURE = A very noticeable and distinct surface modification which is well suited for large prints; typically framed prints of 8" x 12" or larger. This texture is applied using a large plate which compresses the paper and results in a warm feel typically felt with paintings.
MOUNTING SURFACES = Various mounting options are available to provide either a distinct feel or a overall stability to your print.
- DOUBLE-WEIGHT MATBOARD = A popular and low-cost dry mount option to provide stability to your finished print. This semi-rigid, lightweight option allows you to frame and memorialize your image with ease.
- STANDARD CANVAS - PRINT BONDED TO CANVAS & MOUNTED ON STRETCHER FRAME = Your silver halide photographic print is permanently bonded to a 7 oz. canvas material which has a very smooth and consist tight weave. By compressing your print using a gigantic press (which is around 10-tons), your image takes on a whole new classic feel unlike any other (the canvas weave texture becomes part of the image). After being painstakingly bonded, your canvas print is then permanently affixed to a lightweight and ultra-stable canvas stretcher frame (staples are along the sides of the frame . . . see image below). Additionally, your print utilizes the palette texture (see above for description) to give it a warm painting-like feel..
- PREMIUM CANVAS - DIRECTLY PRINTED ON CANVAS WITH "GALLERY WRAP" ON WOOD FRAME = For those exceptionally special prints, your image is directly printed on canvas material and then wrapped completely around a wood stretcher frame (aka "Gallery Wrap"). This product represents the highest-quality mounting option available. By utilizing a gallery wrap, the canvas is hand-stretched and wrapped around the sides of the frame for a beautiful print, ready to hang on your wall without any additional framing necessary (i.e., staples are on the inside portion of the frame and not visible while hanging on the wall). Finally, your canvas image is sprayed with a special gloss-like protective UV coating to prevent fading, reduce scuffs & scratches, and maximize longevity.
