Overview:

As an alternative to our high-end (and high priced) custom "Albums," we offer two economical yet attractive products, either our "proof portfolio" or "hardcover press printed book", to serve as a viable alternate. "Proof Portfolios" are most economical (lower cost binding and cover, but higher end photographic paper) while "Hardcover Press Printed Books" are slightly more expensive (higher quality cover & binding, but lower quality paper).

The hardcover press printed book is a wonderful option when compared with our proof portfolios. We've partnered up with our lab to provide a leather hardcover press printed book which features your images on double-sided paper (as opposed to the single-sided proof portfolio products). These hardcover books are printed on heavy (120# cover weight) paper that measures 12" x 12" square and is "hinged" so that the book will "lay flat" on a table (see inset picture above of binding).

Page Capacity & Image Layout:

Press printed hardcover books may accommodate between 10-40 pages (20-80 sides).  Images will be aligned in in a standard "grid" pattern (see picture of the spiral proof portfolio as an example) and placed on top of a plain high-contrast black (or white) background. Each image will have a thin black or white "stroke" around it (fyi, a "stroke" is simply a border) to enhance the image's contrast. Unlike the proof portfolio, there will be no file names/numbers below each of the images. Thus, this line of hardcover press printed books is not suitable for proofing and picking out which image to enlarge & make prints of.

You may select up to a maximum of nine (9) images for printing on each side of the page. If you select

Cover Material & Colors:

Extremely durable leather covers are utilized on this product and are available in a variety of colors (see selection below).  In terms of the quality of leather, this is of course an economy line of leather product and is akin to that found in a university library.  Leather will wrap around the entire book.

Custom Cover Options:

For a more elegant and personal option, we suggest you utilize a custom canvas or glossy cover (this is only for the front of the book; the back and spine of the book will be one of the above leather colors). For the canvas cover, your image will be printed directly on the canvas, next it has a coat of lamination applied for protection, then finally it is permanently affixed and wrapped around the cover of the book.  Alternatively, our custom high gloss covers are printed on high-quality photographic paper, followed by a high-gloss coating for protection, and finally permanently affixed to & wrapped around the cover of your book.

You may select any image from your event to serve as the custom canvas cover; however, you must realize that it will be cropped to to a square aspect ratio so be sure to choose a photo that can accommodate this square aspect ratio (as opposed to the rectangular aspect ratio the images naturally are displayed in both online and via your proof prints).  A sample of the two custom printed options appear below:

Paper:

Our hardcover press printed books are not printed on photographic paper; instead, they are printed on a heavy smooth cover stock (120# cover weight / 320 gsm . . . fyi, a business card is typically 65# cover weight). Each page, after printing, has a glossy coat applied which is akin to that of a magazine cover. Accordingly, since this is not photographic paper, your images will not look as good as our Proof Portfolio or Album product lines (both these lines utilize professional grade photographic paper and consequently display the pictures with full color accuracy & fidelity). By using heavy glossy paper we are able to offer a hardcover product at a fraction of the cost of a full-blown hardcover album.
